WHO ARE WE?
Jazzva entered the world of vocal music a bit more than a decade ago. Our path is one of discovering the human voice, writing new stories, finding harmonies and playing with different colours and effects. We try to find a special relationship with each song we perform and we aspire to recreate it authentically and vividly for our audience.

REPERTOIRE
Jazzva’s repertoire is comprised of a wide range of genres; from pop, rock and jazz to arrangements of folk songs and more. We are cooperating with amazing arrangers, who make more then sure that all our little crazy ideas make it to the musical stave. Apart from performing we organise Popjazziada – one of the most important a cappella festivals in Slovenia – in Ljubljana every fall.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
Second place at the competition Internationaler A CAPPELLA Wettbewerb 2015 in Leipzig (GER) with professional international contestants.
First place at the international competition Seghizzi 2014 Gorica (I).
First place at the a cappella festival Sredi zvezd in Žalec (SLO) for three years in a row (2010, 2011, 2012).

JAZZVA MEMBERS
We are not afraid of new challenges, we grow each year and so do our ambitions. We realize them by performing at home and abroad, organising concerts, recording and attending festivals. After gaining valuable experience on stages of Europe’s leading competitions and learning many new things we are still shaping and exploring our musical style, specific sound and characteristic presence on stage.

Sopran

Maša Simčič

Sopran

An extravagant mademoiselle with an untamable temperament. Her supple, high-flying notes do not fall to the ground but rather float just to the right places and impress every single time. The most expressive and spontaneous dancer of the group, an admirer of everything French and an excellent Ljubljana tourist guide.

Mezzosopran

Jasna Žitnik

Mezzosopran / Umetniški vodja

The one that makes sure Jazzva doesn’t have too few rehearsals and doesn’t run out of music. Sometimes it’s just incredible, the things she can sing. The personification of musicality and perfect pitch. A passionate earring collector, amateur hairdresser and a huge fan of bunnies, basses and other lovely things. Her hearing is considerably above average and she has a sharp sense of smell.

alt

Anja Hrastovšek

alt

An exceptional jazz vocalist, a true master of improvisation and a singing teacher with the longest musical mileage in the group. Determined, incredibly fun and of a good heart. A chef without comparison and an amazing driver, specialized in navigation on unfamilliar roads.

sound engineer

Jure Matoz

sound engineer

A young man of many talents and untamed hair, who diligently makes sure that our voices are in sync when we sing with microphones. An astounding photographer who we also have to thank for our impeccable looks in photos.

beatbox

Tadej Pasar

beatbox

Tadej is the only one from the group that doesn’t sing, but rather drums. Our vocal percussionist, the rhythm-machine that takes care of the special sound effects. When he’s not practicing, his profession is informatics. He’s a fan of basketball and many other sports. The only Jazzva that can pull off a beard.

bass

Andrej Perdih

bass

The founding father of Jazzva, a PhD and the only daddy in the group. An expert in Czech beer and an avid fan of ice hockey. He says that his strongest suits are massage and bassage. He has a taste for linguistic delicacies but tuna and mushrooms disagree with him.

baritone

Klemen Dovjak

baritone

The newest Jazzva member with a soft, exceptionally emotional voice. An economist by education, but feels more at home in nature than among numbers, A cat-lover and hobby gardener. So far the only one of the group who had the guts to get a tattoo and, quoting one of the members of Slovenia’s got talent, “the dude with the best hairdo”.

tenor

Jon Leskovec

tenor

The youngest Jazzva, an ascetic young man and a keen athlete, a pharmacy student and the Jazzva mastermind. He says he is pretty multitalented, has a skiing instructor license, used to be a boy-scout, plays the clarinet and can whistle while he speaks. He can recite numerous TV commercials, South Park and Harry Potter sequences on demand.
